2018 Jeep Wrangler
As cool as the ZR1 is, the much-anticipated Wrangler – it’s been 10 years since the model was last redesigned, double the development time of most models – was the star of the show in LA. Available initially as a two-door or four-door Unlimited model, the 2018 Wrangler comes equipped with either the same V6 Pentastar as last year (that’s now been given auto start/stop tech), or a new 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo whose 295 lb-ft of torque eclipses the 260 lb-ft made by the Pentastar. A diesel is also planned for 2019 while a plug-in hybrid version – yes, you read that right – is on the way for 2020.

While at first blush, it looks like a classic Wrangler, slight adjustments have been made to improve aerodynamics and efficiency. A slightly curved 7-slat grille and curved roof corners help reduce drag by 9 per cent, while aluminum/magnesium body panels have reduced weight, too. The Wrangler also gets fourth-generation Uconnect infotainment (with an available 8-inch display), a tilt AND telescoping steering wheel, electronic driver aids befitting a proper SUV as well as a back-up camera. Of course, being a Wrangler it has to be capable, meaning the availability of two 4WD systems – one gets you a 3.45:1 Dana rear axle, the other, a 4.10:1. More details on the Wrangler.
