Tagliani Reflects on Career in Wake of Hall Induction
Veteran Canadian racer Alex Tagliani shared some thoughts and feelings about the career that earned him induction this past weekend into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame. The 42-year-old Montreal native said he was always driven by a sheer love of racing more than any quest for honors or silverware. Among the achievements he is proudest of, the former CART and NASCAR driver cites suiting up for the Canadian Player’s team in CART, gaining the pole for the Vancouver Indy race in 2001 and thus receiving the Pole Trophy from late Canadian driver Greg Moore’s father, and being the only Canadian to take the pole position at the Indianapolis 500, in 2011. Both Mercedes and Ferrari have refused to enter into any arrangement to supply Red Bull with a power unit for 2016, prompting the embattled team to float the idea of returning to Renault for its engines. In the first of the three weekend races at the track, the teenager led every lap of the race to take his first checkered flag on the circuit. The second race saw Stroll take sixth place, and the driver now sits fifth overall in the season points standings.
