Bedard and Rzadzinski win Nissan Micra Cup races in MontrealTwo young guns, Olivier Bedard and Stefan Rzadzinski, shone last weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix as they won a race each of the Nissan Micra Cup.
Race 1 The first race was held Saturday on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. Bedard, who qualified on pole position, took victory after leading all laps. Thanaroj Thanasitnitiket, kindly nicknamed “Mr. T” by everyone, arrived home in second place ahead of former NHL ice hockey player, Marc-Andre Bergeron. Olivier Pelletier was named best rookie in that race. Race 2 Stefan Rzadzinski and Bedard fought fiercely - and fairly - during the 12 laps of the second race on Sunday. Rzadzinski scored his first Cup victory, while Bedard, who also competed in the Formula 1600 series that weekend, finished second.
Valerie Chiasson finished in third place, while Metod Topolnik was named best rookie of the race. Chiasson wrote a page of history by finishing in third place overall, becoming the first female drover to climb on a podium at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. |
