The new Volvo XC60 was the recipient of our Luxury Compact SUV of the Year trophy during the 2018 Auto123.com Awards ceremony, held this past November 22nd in Toronto. It beat out the two other finalists in the category, the Audi Q5 and Jaguar E-PACE.
Eclipsing these two competitors and others, the second-generation XC60 boasts exceptional styling and safety. This is all backed by a host of state-of-the-art technologies and a selection of three powerful engines under the hood.
More precisely, there’s a 250-hp T5 turbocharged engine, a 316-hp T6 turbocharged and supercharged engine, and a 400-hp T8 twin-engine plug-in electric hybrid system. The XC60 is equipped solely with all-wheel-drive capabilities in Canada.
Steer Assist has been added to Volvo’s ground-breaking City Safety system. A new safety feature called Oncoming Lane Mitigation uses steer assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while the Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) uses this functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.
We also like the Volvo Sensus driver infotainment system and connected services, which have received a graphical update for improved usability. Same thing for the Volvo On Call app.
On the road, the new XC60 not only has the looks to make even luxury grand tourers blush, but also the genes, starting with a supremely well-engineered chassis and highly refined cabin. Another notable innovation is Volvo’s advanced semi-autonomous driver assistance system, Pilot Assist, available in the new XC60 as an option. It takes care of steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h.
