The 42nd edition of the Tokyo Motor Show will host two Mitsubishi premiers: the fuel-efficient Mirage and the plug-in, hybrid SUV concept PX-MiEV II.
Featuring technologies based on the i-MiEV, the PX-MiEV II combines an electric engine with a 2.0L 4-cylinder heat engine that sips just 1.7L/100km. The five-seater has a range of 800 kilometres, 50 of which, according to Mitsubishi, can be travelled on electric power alone.
The PX-MiEV II concept inherits the automaker’s S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control) traction control system. The instant torque typical of electric engines will ensure snappy accelerations.
As for the Mirage, it’s powered by a 3-cylinder engine with start/stop technology mated to a continuously variable transmission. Mitsubishi says it burns just 3.3L/100 km thanks to its lightweight construction, superior aerodynamics and highly efficient powertrain.
