Best pocket SUV: Subaru Crosstrek
Even though this is its last year in this form - the 2024 version is scheduled to launch later this year - Subaru's smallest SUV deserves its place in our ranking in part because it leaves the factory with an excellent level of initial quality. But even more, what makes the Crosstrek a strong choice for consumers is that it retains that quality for many years. These vehicles are among the most durable out there... when they are well maintained.
And while the Crosstrek is essentially a taller, higher-spec Impreza , its off-road capabilities are quite astonishing for a vehicle in this class. And the reputation of its all-wheel drive system is well established; it's simply one of the best in the industry, period!
More good news: the manufacturer has not been too hard on its loyal customers, as the 2023 prices have not increased drastically. Next year, it could be a different story though!
Oh yes, there's also the Crosstrek's driveability, which is one of the best in the class as well, especially with the “big” 2.5L flat-4 engine offered in Outdoor and Limited trims.
