So far, the "allroad" name was used to designate only one model of the Audi line of product : the A6 Avant variation equivalent to Subaru Outback. But that's to be changed soon.
The higher ride height and the larger wheel arches similar to those of the A6 allroad tell us this is no ordinary A4. As these spy-shots finally prove, the German car-maker is going to complete the range of "allroad quattros" by adding a smaller brother based on the still-new A4 Avant - the name used by Audi for wagons.
It's a class of cars where models are stating to abound, with competition coming only from Volvo (XC70 Cross Country), Saab (9-3 SportCombi XWD) and Subaru (Outback).
Audi's traditional competitors, however, haven't react yet. BMW stays with their xDrive system and Mercedes is concentrating on their 4Matic, but none of these two offer passenger cars with increased ground-clearance and exterior modifications.
