Alrighty, gearheads. You’ve been following the news and studying the latest upcoming hardware slated for release by the automotive industry in the coming months. You’ve been reading up on the latest new technological advances and the models they’re bolted to. You’ve formed some opinions on the manufacturers, models and hardware-- and decided whether or not to get excited about them.

So have I. And with that, I present this week’s blog: new and upcoming automotive stuff that’s safe to get excited about. Here’s the list, in no particular order.

Hyundai’s Latest:
Hyundai is one of the automakers to watch in the coming months—and their new and upcoming products are part of the reason why. How’s about a direct-injected, 429-horsepower V8 engine slated for the Genesis Sedan? Yes folks, that’s tremendous specific output. Way to stick it to those stuffy German engineers, Korea. All-wheel drive is coming, too.

Don’t forget about the new Accent, which uses the same direct-injection technology to crank 138 horsepower out of a 1.6-litre engine. The latter model also has an uncharacteristically high level of attention paid to minimizing curb weight and boosting its power-to-weight ratio to class-leading levels.

They do this on subcompacts?? Sleeper anyone?

New Fords: EcoBoost? Self-parking? Dual-clutch transmissions? Sync? Ford’s doing some great stuff when it comes to enhancing everyday utility, efficient performance, and moving today’s vehicles into the future. Best of all, many of the automaker’s great new systems and technologies are available on models you and I can afford. Including the new Mustang.

American Crossovers/SUVs: Common question: “Which family SUV should I check out?” My answer: “The Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ford Explorer”.
Why?

Compared to numerous Japanese competitors, these machines offer more character, technology and luxury at a reasonable price. Both also exemplify off-road ride quality. America is building some of their most impressive vehicles yet, and the Grand Cherokee and Explorer are two of them.

The Chrysler 300: Like, seriously. Have you seen one of the new 300s on the highway yet? It’s sexy as all hell. And as the new American sedan that put American sedans back on the map, it should be.

Forget selling an appendage for a Bentley or Rolls—the new 300 packs enough visual impact to create a wave of pointed fingers and dropped jaws from those on the outsid
