Porsche has announced that, starting with the 2017 model year, the Cayman and Boxster will be known as 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster. Why? To pay tribute to the legendary Porsche 718 race car, which enjoyed plenty of success in 1957 and the following years.

In addition, both models will receive equally powerful, turbocharged flat-4 engines. While output has yet to be specified, you should know that Porsche finished first and second in the 24 hours of Le Mans with 919 Hybrid LMP1 featuring a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder. With these victories, the 919 Hybrid has opened up the prospects for the performance potential of future sports car engines from Porsche.

The Roadster will be positioned at a higher price level than the Coupé, as it is the case for the 911 models.
