Some Japanese media including business newspaper Nikkei report that Nissan is currently in talks to take control of Mitsubishi, which has recently admitted to cheating in fuel consumption tests and announced today that nine more models including an SUV may not have been properly tested.
A few of the vehicles were manufactured for Nissan by Mitsubishi. Sources say the former could now take over as much as 30% of the latter, making it a majority owner above Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Since the scandal broke out on April 19th, Mitsubishi shares have fallen 43%.
