The new Porsche 911 GT3, the race version of which was unveiled last fall in Paris, made quite a splash on its first outing at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife track. A recorded time of 7min 12.7s meant it beat the best lap time of its previous version by more than 12 seconds!
Just a few short years ago, such a lightning-quick lap time would have been unthinkable by anything other than dedicated race cars fitted with slick tires.
“We have emphatically proven that the new 911 GT3 not only provides the best driving experience, but can also deliver an impressive performance on the Nordschleife. The focus was on optimising the driving quality,” declared Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT cars at Porsche.
Like its racing sibling, the new Porsche 911 GT3 uses a naturally aspirated 500-hp engine, and it also features rear-axle steering and a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, as well as Michelin Sport Cup 2 N1 tires.
