They've been around for ninety years, but today marks the pursuit of Mitsubishi's most ambitious project to date with the launch of its Global platform. "Project Global" as it's referred to as is already gearing up to hit the roads in the second generation Outlander SUV, though the platforms highest volume variant will take the stage at the 2007 North American

The highest volume variant is, of course, the long anticipated 4-door Lancer sports sedan.

The initial sketch suggests a modern and agressive look in line with former Concept-X and Concept-X Sportback showcars. One source indicates that the production model will look very simliar to the skecth provided. The new Lancer was penned by artists from Europe and Japan and features a low stance, long hood, short rear deck and deep-set headlamps. The platform includes built-in flexibility required for use in any locale, allowing Mitsubishi to cater to an increasingly global marketplace.

Initial information suggests a variety of engine options available to suit differing market needs, including a base line 1.5 litre engine, a two-litre turbocharged engine for high performance and even diesel power for some markets. The Lancer takes a place Mitsubishi's new vehicle lineup and carries the brands new trademark presence forward with any model- from the entry vehicle to the new Lancer Evolution supercar.
