Infiniti has chosen the Paris Auto Show taking place this coming October for the unveiling of its very first production variable compression turbo (VC-T) engine. This is set to be one of the most advanced internal-combustion engines ever made available for production to date. The new VC-T will replace diesel-powered motors currently available in Europe, and its technology will also be featured in V6 engines.

The mechanics of the 4-cylinder turbo engine are the result of nearly 20 years of research and represent a radical change of course for Infiniti, according to Roland Krueger, President of Infiniti Motor Company. The new technology allows for the generation of even greater power than that produced by a conventional turbo engine, because the new motor is unfettered by a compression ratio that is no longer fixed but now varies from 8:1 (high performance) to 14:1 (high efficiency).

The advantages provided by VC-T technology are many, and include notable reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, not to mention in noise and vibration. The new engine is also lighter and more compact.

More details will be upcoming as part of our coverage of the 2016 Paris Auto Show.
