Sam Schmidt Motorsports has confirmed Friday, in Mid-Ohio, that it will, along with the Ganassi and AJ Foyt Racing teams, race Honda V6 engines next year.
Three manufacturers (Honda, Chevrolet and Group Lotus) have committed to supplying engines to the new IndyCars next year. Honda had been the sole manufacturer of the series since 2006.
"I've raced with Honda and I've raced against Honda, and it was pretty easy to make this decision," explained team owner Sam Schmidt.
The new Honda engine is expected to run for the first time next week, with Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon at the wheel of the 2012 Dallara prototype.
Canadian driver Alexandre Tagliani is currently in 13th position in the standing for Sam Schmidt Motorsport. His teammate Martin Plowman is last in the No. 17 car (debut this weekend). Townsend Bell has also raced for the team this year.
