Hyundai has released the first details on the potent engine that will soon be nestled under the hood of the highly anticipated turbo version of the 2012 Veloster.
We’re looking at a 1.6-litre four-cylinder with a twin-scroll turbocharger, an intercooler and direct injection. Looks like the Veloster’s output of 138 ponies and 123 lb-ft will be hitting impressive new heights.
To wit, the Veloster Turbo will deploy 204 hp at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb-ft at 1,750, enabling it to go head to head, and perhaps even outstrip, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, a reference in its own right.
The car will also meet California’s extremely strict ULEV (Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle) environmental standard.
The Hyundai Veloster Turbo should be landing in the second half of 2012.
