The European inspired Elantra GT is Hyundai's first ever entry in the sports sedan market. The GT is based on the same platform as the Elantra sedan, however has a sportier look and feel to it. The new GT model comes equipped with a hatchback, which lends to a very stylistic look.
The newest member of the Hyundai family will only be offered in the GT trim level, however there will be two different packages available. Both packages will come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic will be available as an option.
Similar to the sedan, the GT will come equipped with the powerful 2.0-litre, DOHC, 16-valve engine that develops 140 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque.
The exterior styling of the Elantra has a very "European" look to it and this is carried through with the GT. To complement the black grill and continue the two-tone scheme of the
front bumper, waistline moulding (black against body colour) surrounds the entire vehicle. Not only is it a sporty look, it also helps guard against side nicks and dents.
The Elantra GT has the same length, width, height, and wheelbase as its sedan cousin, however the hatchback offers increased luggage capacity. Facilitating optimum loading and unloading, the hatchback door opens high and wide to reveal an ample 801 litres of cargo space. The back seats fold 60/40 to create a single cargo bed extending form the trunk to the back of the front seats.
