Hyundai decided to give us an early Christmas gift this year, a video and a few specs of the production version of the Veloster, to be featured at the Detroit Auto Show.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the car, Hyundai had presented it at the Seoul Motor Show in 2007 and several spy shots of the little hatchback have been leaked on the Internet in the past few months.

According to John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, the Veloster will be an alternative to the Genesis Coupe both in terms of pricing, which should be less than that of the defunct Tiburon, and fuel economy.

The car will be available with a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, direct injection engine as well as higher performance, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged mills.

The South Korean automaker hadn’t mentioned Canadian availability of the Veloster at the time of writing. The Auto123 team will naturally be on site in Detroit, poised to give you the full scoop on this cute little machine.
