Every year the Automobiles Journalists’ Association of Canada (AJAC) hands out its annual best vehicle awards in 12 categories during media day at the Montreal Auto Show. Once again in 2019, the eve of the official opening of the show was the occasion for the organization to name the winners in a dozen different categories.
This year, Japanese automaker Mazda can be satisfied with its haul after seen its models take the top honours in three of the 12 categories. The presence of the Hyundai Kona also shows, once again, what a hot start to its career the little crossover has had.
The 12 winners were chosen from a preliminary list of 55 vehicles. This first list includes category winners from 2018, but also all models that were renewed or updated over the course of the last year.
On to Toronto and Vancouver
The next step for AJAC is to reveal which models it deems overall Car and SUV of the Year, and that will happen at the Toronto auto show next month. Then in March, during the Vancouver auto show, the organization will name its choices for Green Car and Green SUV of the Year.
