Birmingham, Alabama - The executives of Porsche America have just confirmed their decision to produce a Limited Edition Boxster sporting the same orange paint as last year's 911 GT3 RS. Initially, this project was supposed to be a mere styling exercise, but in light of the strong reaction from enthusiasts and owners, the German automaker chose to manufacture 500 units for 2008: 250 base models and 250 S models.

In addition to the less-than-subtle hue, the car also features new black accents with the accessories of the optional Sport Package. Complementing the design are sleek, 18- or 19-inch black wheels with silver lips, black intake vents and black script "Boxster" badges on the trunk lid.

I particularly liked the contrasting effect of the interior colors. Porsche's designers managed to create a unique atmosphere by adding or keeping an horizontal orange trim in Alcantara on the dashboard and the shifter. Even the shift pattern markings are rendered in bright orange.

During the presentation of the Limited Edition Boxsters at the Barber Motorsports Park, Porsche executives told us that the pricing and release date will be announced in a few short months. The official name will be "Boxster Limited Edition" and it's pretty safe to assume that Porsche aficionados and future owners will be able to locate their cars from far, far away.
