Jaguar’s F-Type is getting some revisions for the 2020 model-year, and two of them are worthy of note – though not for the same reasons. In what is a good-news-bad-news scenario, let’s start with the good:
The 2020 F-Type will be made available in a special edition being added to the catalogue. The Checkered Flag Limited Edition will sport, you guessed it, checkered flags on the headrests, the steering wheel and the door sills. Buyers will be able to choose from three colours, red, grey and a two-tone motif (white body with black roof). The model will be shod in 20-inch wheels and get red brake calipers for an extra touch of sportiness.
The interior gets more-sculpted sport seats with either red or grey contrasting stitching, while the central console gets a brushed-aluminum finish. The steering wheel gets a red strip in the centre, where a clock shows 12 noon.
The special edition was created to pay tribute to Jaguar’s long and rich history in auto racing. It can be had with either a 296-hp 4-cylinder turbo or a 3.0L V6 delivering 380 hp. A removable soft top is available as an option.
And the bad news, you ask? Jaguar also announced that it is ditching the 6-speed manual gearbox that was available with the model’s V6 engine. Count another sports car stripped of part of its DNA.
It’s hard to be overjoyed by Jaguar’s decision to give buyers only the 8-speed automatic transmission as an option.
At present, only U.S. pricing has been announced for 2020 F-Type; for Canadian figures we’ll have to wait. American consumers will be required to fork over at least $72,925 USD for the Checkered Flag Limited Edition, while the V6-engine F-Type will go for $95,525 USD.
