It’s actually the world’s first Super Sport Utility Vehicle, Lamborghini says

The all-new and highly anticipated 2019 Lamborghini Urus SUV is finally joining the Aventador and Huracán coupes in the exotic car manufacturer’s lineup, with the promise of benchmarking power, performance and driving dynamics, unparalleled design, luxury and daily usability. It was many years in the making.

Deliveries to customers will begin next spring. Pricing starts at $200,000 in the U.S., but no details about the Canadian market were announced.

"The Lamborghini Urus is a visionary approach based on the infusion of Lamborghini DNA into the most versatile vehicle, the SUV. The Urus elevates the SUV to a level not previously possible, the Super SUV. It is a true Lamborghini in terms of design, performance, driving dynamics and emotion as well as drivable every day in a range of environments."

- Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Lamborghini

Concept and performance
This vehicle naturally opens the door to new possibilities for Lamborghini as a brand as it targets a different type of customer. Its low-line coupe styling and commanding road position belie the very comfortable ride, higher ground clearance, and luxurious interior space together with the latest technologies. The Urus is said to offer easy driving in the city, maximum comfort during long journeys, thrilling super sports car dynamics on the road and track, plus versatile off-road abilities in a range of environments.

Its new front-mounted 4.0L twin-turbo V8—the first turbo engine in a Lamborghini—delivers 650 hp at 6,000 rpm and 627 lb-ft of torque at 2,250 rpm. More importantly, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h, the Lamborghini Urus becomes the fastest SUV on the planet, besting the marks set by the more powerful (707 hp) but much heavier Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The standard Carbon Ceramic Brakes are no less impressive: the Urus decelerates from 100-0 km/h in 33.7 metres.

Other highlights include an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a dynamic 4WD system that can send up to 70% of the engine’s torque to the front or 87% to the rear, active torque vectoring for left-right distribution, multiple drive modes (Street, Off-Road, Snow, Sand, Sport, Race), adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering and variable exhaust.

Design and amenities
Styling is inspired from the classic LM002 as well as the aforementioned Aventador and Huracán supercars. Every part was developed with light weight and aerodynamic efficiency in mind. Also, the available wheels range from 21”-23” in size; can you believe it?

Meanwhile, the cabin offers seating for up to five occupants (a two-seat rear layout is optional) and is replete with high-quality materials including the finest leather, Alcantara, aluminum, carbon fibre and wood. A ton of trim options can be specified, too. Multifunction switches are intuitively located on the steering wheel to control the Lamborghini Infotainment System, and right behind is a fully digital TFT display showing the main vehicle information in an animated, customizable 3D representation. As for cargo, the rear bench seat can be lowered to substantially extend the trunk space from 616 to 1,596 litres.

Trivia
In true Lamborghini tradition, the name Urus is derived from the world of bulls. The Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle.
