2 new versions and visual, tech updates

Last week we shared with you details regarding the version of the 2019 Honda HR-V that will be available in the U.S. We now have details for our own Canadian edition, including pricing for each trim. And, here's our photo gallery!

Dealers are accepting pre-orders on the 2019 HR-V as of now, and the first deliveries are expected to take place early in 2019.

What’s new
For starters, the 2019 Honda HR-V will be available in two new versions, the Sport and the Touring. The small crossover will also benefit from styling updates and new technologies, as well as offer motorists a more refined driving experience, promises Honda.

The starting price for the base model is $23,100, while the top-end Touring edition will cost at least $31,800.

Esthetically, the 2019 HR-V has been updated with several new elements. The grille, for example, is enhanced by a new interpretation of the “flying wing” rendered in dark chrome and extending over the new projector-style headlights. Under the chrome band, the grille opening has been restyled to emphasize a wide look, and the fog light housings have been enlarged. In the rear, new smoked turn signal lenses are connected by a thin chrome band.

The Sport and the Touring
For their part, the new HR-V Sport and Touring versions get their own distinctive look. Black visual elements (like the honey comb grille) and 17-inch alloy wheels visually distinguish the HR-V Sport trims, while the Touring trim gets multi-element LED headlights, dark chrome trim, and LED fog lights.

Inside, the Sport version come with a blackout headliner, contrast stitching on the seats, leather-covered steering wheel, and sport-style pedals.

The new line-topping HR-V Touring trim flanks its honeycomb grille with multi-element Honda LED headlights that are unique in the HR-V lineup, as are the 5-element LED fog lights. HR-V Touring comes with similar lower-body trim as Sport, but painted body colour rather than gloss black.

Two new colours have been added to the HR-V’s palette for 2019: Orange Burst Metallic and Platinum White Pearl.

The tech
For the first time, the HR-V now comes with standard Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies – including Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist - on all trims.

Inside, the HR-V benefits from a new Display Audio system featuring a simplified interface that includes a volume knob and the addition of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration. The navigation system, available exclusively in Touring trims, has also been improved with sharper graphics and 3D landmarks. All models feature a redesigned driver's meter with a large analog speedometer and digital tachometer.

Honda has brought refinements to its standard Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT), with the promise of a more natural driving feel and quieter operation. Other measures to reduce interior noise include additional sound deadening in the fenders and floor, plus the inclusion of Active Noise Cancelling on the Sport and Touring trims.

The powertrain
Under the hood of the 2019 Honda HR-V is a 141-hp, 1.8L 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine. Driving either the front or all four wheels, all HR-V models now use a Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT). As we reported earlier, the 6-speed manual transmission has been discontinued for the 2019 model year.
