The redesigned 2018 Nissan Micra celebrated its world premiere yesterday at the 2016 Paris Auto Show, and the Japanese automaker is already talking about a revolution.

“When the first Micra appeared more than 30 years ago, it marked a revolution in the small hatchback segment and opened a new chapter for Nissan. The fifth-generation Micra is just as revolutionary, and will raise expectations for what a hatchback can, and should, deliver to its customers,” said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.

The new Micra is lower, wider, and longer than its predecessors, with more interior space. It also has advanced new downsized turbo drivetrains, an agile chassis, and a full complement of innovative safety features.

Styling is inspired by the Sway Concept unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show. Exterior highlights include the distinctive V-motion grille, boomerang-shaped lights, and a floating roof, plus a selection of 10 vivid colours such as Energy Orange.

Inside, look for a lower driving position with greater seat adjustment, a wing-shaped dashboard that gives the cabin a light and spacious impression, less noise, and more technology. Speaking of which, a 7” full colour central display, Siri voice control, and Apple CarPlay will be available.

On the road, an Active Ride Control system enhances ride quality, while Active Trace Control reduces understeer for sharper handling.

The new 2018 Nissan Micra will be built in Europe and sold over there from March 2017. No word yet about the Canadian market, however. Stay tuned.
