The all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, which made its global debut in Los Angeles last November, will go on sale in Canada right around summer ― nearly 50 years after the original was introduced. Look for the ultimate Italian roadster experience with driving excitement, technology and safety, combined with iconic Italian design, the company says.
Four Fiat 124 Spider models will be available starting with the Classica at $33,495. It features a dual-tip exhaust, black roll bar finish, and a body-coloured windshield surround, side sills and door handles. The vehicle also comes standard with 16” alloy wheels, Nero (black) premium cloth seats, halogen headlamps, and LED tail lamps. Inside, soft-touch materials on the instrument panel are highlighted with light silver accents.
Next up is the Fiat 124 Spider Lusso at $36,495, which adds 17” alloy wheels, silver-painted A-pillar header and roll-bar cover, and a dual-tip chrome exhaust. The interior gains heated premium leather seats in Nero (black) or Saddle, and a leatherette-wrapped cluster brow.
Both Classica and Lusso models use a 1.4L MultiAir Turbo 4-cylinder engine that delivers 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque through a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the 165-horsepower Fiat 124 Spider Abarth offers a sportier, more responsive driving experience for performance enthusiasts. At $37,995, it includes a sport suspension, mechanical limited-slip differential, Sport Mode selector, and sport-tuned chrome quad-tip exhaust. Its aggressive appearance is highlighted by unique front and rear fascias, 17” Gun Metal aluminum wheels, and Gun Metal exterior accents. A Brembo braking system and Recaro seats are optional.
Finally, the first 124 units will be offered as a limited-edition Prima Edizione Lusso at $42,190. This one boasts GPS navigation, LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a 9-speaker Bose stereo, Park-Sense Rear Park Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection, SiriusXM satellite radio, and much more. Each copy will be individually numbered with a commemorative badge.
The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider not only resembles the new $31,900 Mazda MX-5 (look at the picture below), but it also shares some components with the Japanese roadster, none more important than the platform.
