Starting this summer, the 2017 BMW i3 will offer a larger battery option enabling drivers to travel longer distances.

While the current 18.8kWh battery provides a zero-emission range of around 130 kilometres on a full charge, the new 33kWh battery extend that number to nearly 200 kilometres, BMW says. New and more powerful charging stations for home garage use as well as new equipment options will also be available.

Still not enough? The Range Extender (REX) variant with 2-cylinder gasoline engine/generator will still be available for both battery versions, keeping the charge level of the battery constant while supplying an additional range of 150 kilometres. Speaking of which, don’t miss our review of the 2016 BMW i3 REX.

The driving performance figures of the 170-horsepower electric motor remain virtually unchanged. The 2017 BMW i3 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just over seven seconds.
