Cool for all ages
Scion is causing problems in the Renny household. As a car for hip (another ancient term according to my son), youthful new car buyers, I’m not supposed to like the car. It would seem that I’m not allowed to like the same things my son does, not in music, not in movies, not in TV shows and certainly not in vehicles.

Now I’ve read the Scion reasoning for coming to Canada and the stats on who their buyers are supposed to be. According to Scion, Canada now has a youthful enough population to support consistent sales. Scion is one of the first brands aimed exclusively at first time, youthful new car buyers. They point to their average customer age in the United States as being 10 to 15 years younger than the national average of a car buyer.

Somehow it doesn’t bother me in the least that I can blow all those expensive stats out the exhaust pipe. It seems to bother my son more than me that I like the same car he does. He just hasn’t figured out that we like the car for different reasons with an overlap of core values.

Front Seats
My son, as tall as he is, will put up with just about anything if the “cool” factor is high enough, so to him the front seats are just something to hold you while you have a bit of fun. I like to drive long distances so seats are much more important to me and the tC passes the comfort test with ease.

Instruments, HVAC and Stereo
From the driver’s seat, instrumentation is simple and presented in a straightforward manner. This does not mean uninspiring. The presentation of everything from speedometer to top line stereo controls is distinctly Scion tC. The speedometer and tach are present as are fuel level and engine temp gauges. In the centre stack, the stereo and its inputs jacks for MP3, USB and i-pod are all present and accounted for. My son assures me that the stereo is a high quality one (I can’t print the term he used to describe it, but it does mean very good).
