Priorities matter
Do drivers care? Mostly not, of course. Priorities aren't the same for everyone and those concerned by fuel economy will surely find the Fiesta attractive, particularly the automatic variant. My road test of 700+ kilometres resulted in an average of 7.5 L/100 km.

With regard to features and amenities, the Fiesta SE deserves much praise. Seven airbags, ABS brakes, stability control and traction control all come standard. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel, which helps tailor the driving position, is a bonus you won't get anywhere else in the segment except for the Fit.

The silver-trimmed centre stack looks like the face of Grendizer, don't you think? On a more serious note, the control layout isn't particularly user-friendly. (Photo: Luc Gagné/Auto123.com)

The SE model also includes excellent bucket seats with firm and surprisingly supportive cushions for a subcompact. They can be heated, too (the $350 package will also add heated mirrors). Interestingly, climate control and power windows come standard, whereas many rivals keep them on their options menu.

Of course, such generous equipment translates into a higher MSRP. But for some buyers, that is no surprise at all!
