New design language
The E-Class Coupes are characterized by a swoopy roofline devoid of B-pillars. With the windows down, and the huge sunroof open, the Coupe offers an open-air experience just shy of a convertible.

The Coupes and Sedan feature the automaker's new COMMAND centre.

With a drag coefficient factor of 0.24, it is also of the most aerodynamic production cars you can buy. All this is to make the coupes more of an emotional proposition than the sedans, and judging by our drive, they have succeeded. The car gets noticed.

Apparently the Sedan and Coupe share not one body panel.

The new Coupes have a surprising number of bodylines running here and there, but it all seems to work. I particularly like the rear three-quarter view, which highlights the powerful rear “haunches” —a treatment that is said to echo the athletic stance of the 1955 220 “Ponton” Coupe.

Excellent E-Class interior
The Coupes and Sedan do more sharing when it comes to the interior. Both cars feature the automaker’s new COMMAND centre, which allows you adjust just about everything via the console-mounted controller and 7-inch display monitor. Like any of these systems, there will be a learning curve, but I found it reasonably easy to navigate.

To get navigation on the E350, you have to pony up for the optional Premium Package, which also throws on voice control, a hard drive music storage system, premium sound system, PARKTRONIC with Parking Guidance, and power rear window shade.

The first things you notice when you slide behind the wheel are the absolutely beautiful seats with very-high backrests. The stitching and leather are good as it gets, and the driver’s seat features 10-way power adjustments and four-way lumber support. It took me about 10 minutes to get comfortable, but once there, it felt like a very comfy body suit.

The steering wheel is big and fat.

Those rear seats are raked back for comfort, but still cozy.
