The information dial can actually be set to serve a couple of different functions including a digital speedometer and if the navigation option is chosen, the directional guidance arrows from the GPS will appear in front of you while the route is shown on the map display in the centre stack.
Porsche handling, even in a SUV is nearly legendary, but what many do not realize is that the Cayenne can pull a trailer as well. Towing capacity is roughly 3,460 kg or 7,000 lbs. The one test I saw included emergency moves and the Cayenne, with trailer, went through the course better than many cars without. Aside from the electronics, one of the big aids to improving the already good handling was the air suspension.
On the road this gives you a huge feeling of confidence when you take the GTS out for a drive. Roads that feel rough in other vehicles are smoother in the GTS and when it comes to going around a corner, the GTS makes every driver feel like Paul Tracey.
Porsche’s huge disc brakes at all four corners and massive calipers do contribute quite a bit to that feeling of confidence. Pedal feel is great and the pedal is easy to modulate. Besides if you happen to push a bit too hard, the ABS system will save the day and your ego. If for some reason you don’t feel the stock brakes are adequate on the Cayenne, there is a ceramic brake option that is truly incredible (and expensive).
In spite of the grin on my face there are a couple of things I didn’t fall in love with. Tiptronic ™ was the first manu/matic transmission that really worked—ten years ago. It’s time for a switch to one of the new twin clutch automatics and the performance gains they bring (including improved fuel economy). Next on the gripe list is a small item; the ignition key is on the left side of the car. Either move it to the right like everybody else or go keyless. Either way I’ll feel better!
We all know that having fun costs money. How big a grin can you afford to have??
