Its profile shows a more traditional engine duct than its big brother, with the familiar dip in the shoulder line just aft of the A-pillar on the doors - that incidentally open conventionally rather than Lamborghini's traditional scissor-type ports fitted to the Murciélago, Diablo, and originally, on the Countach.

All in all Lamborghini Centro Stile, the Italian automaker's in house design headquarters, has done a wonderful job finishing off what initially started as an Italdesign (Giugiaro) styling proposal.

Word has it the new Lamborghini will move the brand further up the civility scale too, with greater comfort and more everyday practicality than previous models, if a two-seat 300 km/h supercar can be considered practical at all. It's the smaller V10 powertrain that frees up space enough to lower the rear bodywork, thus improving overall packaging while enhancing rearward vision.

But will it make it to market by May of this year as initially intended, just in time for summer sales in Europe, North America and much of the more affluent parts of Asia? If it does, its expectedly more attainable retail price of approximately $235,000, $135,000 less expensive than the $370,000 Murciélago, should make it a hot commodity.

And that should please the Sant'Agata, Bolognese automaker, preparing to produce about 1,000 examples in its first year with 1,500 to 2,000 per annum to follow, a volume leap of gigantic proportions for the tiny firm.
