None of the engines are particularly refined compared to the current crop of Chrysler mills, with the V6 known for being a bit on the noisy side. The auto transmission that it's mated to doesn't shift with the alacrity of the new breed either, reportedly a little slow to downshift and a hardly as smooth during the process.

Like with any used car, it's a good idea to check the oil for signs of water or dirt. Neglect was a common problem for the Cirrus as it didn't need a tune up until 160,000 km. (Photo: DaimlerChrysler)

The engine compartment is an especially user-friendly environment, with do-it-yourself yellow coded handles for all key maintenance areas. It's always a good idea to personally inspect the lubricants, especially the oil for water or excessive dirt. The first is almost always a sign of a blown head gasket while the latter shows maintenance neglect, a common problem with a car that didn't need a full tune-up for 160,000 km.

Over its six year run, the Cirrus had twelve recalls, all which should have all been taken car of by the previous owner. (Photo: DaimlerChrysler)

Speaking of problems the Cirrus suffered twelve recalls, five that affected its first year, two in 2000 and the rest throughout its 6-year model run. Of course each recall should have been taken care of by the previous owner and therefore not an issue when purchasing used. However, recalls are often a sign that a vehicle's initial engineering was not as thorough as it could have been, resulting in poorer than average overall reliability.
