    Hidden Fee

**** PLEASE READ **** Hello everyone, This dealership is not to be trusted. I purchased my first car from them, a used 2015 Honda Fit, in April 2019. The salesman, Guy Samson, treated us well and allowed to take the car for a long test drive and take it to an independent mechanic for inspection. We then agreed on a price for the car that was 2% below the advertised price – not a big reduction. We were then presented with a contract that listed the agreed upon vehicle price PLUS a $798 line for “PRGR ENV VERT/GLOBAL 1.” We asked what this mystery fee was for and we were told that the fee was an environmental fee that is mandatory for car sales in Quebec. With this being our first car purchase, we ignorantly believed the salesman and signed the contract. When we got home, we did the proper searches for this mystery fee that we have done before signing. We found that there is no such mandatory fee in Quebec, so we messaged the salesman, Guy Samson, to ask what the fee was for again. We were then told that the fee was a mandatory dealership fee for a “Globali anti-theft” and “prepping the car”, which we neither requested or agreed to purchase. In Quebec, an “all inclusive” price must be advertised for car sales. This means that a contract can only include the vehicle price and the relevant taxes, unless an additional good/service is agreed upon by both parties. This means that this practice was illegal because the fee was not agreed upon and not made to clear to us upon signing the contract. Furthermore, the “Globali” system has been said be absolutely useless as this CBC report indicates: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/car-theft-deterrent-just-a-cash-grab-expert-says-1.1317649 When I went to pick up my car, I noticed that the anti-theft stickers on the car weren’t even Global I, but rather another useless system, “Secure Gard”. The dealer kept insisting that the fee was not optional and included a mandatory government “environmental fee” (which does not exist). I highly recommend avoiding this dealership and their extremely shady practices or at least be sure to double check any contracts and do your full due diligence.
