Getting Traction
Baby Lincoln gets AWD traction

The word "traction" is creeping into boardrooms all across the nation to describe whether a strategy or concept is catching on. If it gains "traction," it's headed for success; if it looses "traction," it's headed for the shredder. By this definition, the availability of all-wheel drive (AWD) on the mid-size Lincoln MKZ sedan has traction. Recognizing the many benefits of AWD, consumers are embracing the technology (traction) on everything from econo-boxes to premium SUVs and high performance sports cars.

New Lincoln MKZ is now available with Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive.

Fortunately in automotive parlance, "traction" continues to represent grip - or lack thereof - exerted by tires on a road surface. The 2007 Lincoln MKZ AWD is engineered to maximize such grip. Its Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive technology automatically distributes power based on demand and slippage. Torque can be directed front to back and side to side. The wheels with the most grip (or is that traction?) receive the most torque. Provided at least one wheel finds solid contact, the vehicle is capable of movement. The advantages of AWD are not however exclusive to snow and ice.

AWD can dramatically improve cornering stability and acceleration by thrusting the car forward from all four corners rather than two, which in the case of a conventional MKZ is the two front wheels. Hammer the throttle while turning right on a wet road and you'll instantly develop an appreciation for AWD- no muss and fuss, just hard-hitting acceleration. Great for pulling into fast moving traffic from a dead stop; something the MKZ does very proficiently thanks to Ford's new, potent and polished 3.5 litre V6 featuring Intake Variable Cam Timing iVCT technology.

New V6 packs more punch
This is by far, Ford's best version of its Duratec V6. With a compression ratio of 10.3:1, it smoothly converts regular fuel into 263 horsepower @ 6250 rpm and 249 pound-feet of torque @ 4500 rpm. This is sufficient punch to make the MKZ stand to attention beyond expectation. Basically, the baby Lincoln flies when pedal meets metal. A smart shifting six-speed autobox ensures the most is made of the Duratec's potency. This box shifts unobtrusively during normal driving. Its electronic brain adjusts shift patterns to match driving dynamics.

263 hp 3.5L V6 packs plenty of punch.
