2003 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible - The Mustang Still Reigns Supreme
Just why Ford has managed to flood the roads with its Mustang while rival GM recently had to pull the plug on its Camaro and Firebird competitors is not entirely clear. Sure the GM cars were in dire need of updates, but for all intents and purposes so is the Mustang. It's going on 5 years which, in a car model's lifespan, is akin to an octogenarian on life support, and that's not even figuring in its quarter century old suspension architecture. Still, despite the Mustang's foibles, Ford continues to hit the GT target dead on.
With a new model expected in 2004, Ford has wound up the marketing machine once again to put a spin on the outgoing model (and I don't mean literally, although that's not hard) with a bevy of special editions. Last year saw the cool Hollywood inspired Bullitt while a new shaker hood adorned Mach I looks and sounds menacing for 2003. Its 320-hp should be good for inspirational 0 to 100 km/h sprints, which is the Mustang's forte. That said a select few pony car devotees are willing to pay a fair chunk of change for a lot more.
